Humidors. How to store cigars
In order for cigar to keep its flavor during long time it must be stored in appropriate conditions. Real cigar connoisseurs compare them with women because cigars must be nourished and cherished like woman and also cigars are very capricious.
Of course, cigars can be stored without unpacking them out of cellophane but for real admires of cigar aroma were invented special boxes - humidors. Seemingly it is usual wooden box often decorated with drawing or noble metals with jewels but it is false opinion.
For storing cigars certain conditions should be observed. In particular, air humidity should be 65-75%. If it will come down this level and cigar will dry up, it will blaze up like a match but its taste will become very strong and bitter. When cigar, on the contrary, will be subject to more humidity it will not molder normally, its taste will become sweet and you will not get any pleasure from it. It is also important to observe temperature regime for cigars. Optimal temperature is considered from 19 to 23 Celsius degrees. If you will exceed storage temperature cigar can start rotting and inside of it can appear tobacco beetle that will speckle it with its ways.
Namely for maintaining optimal temperature and humidity humidors were invented. The humidor's system is quite simple and at the same time on its quality depends how long you will be able to store cigars inside of it and how they will feel there. Humidor itself represents, more often, wooden box, but also there are humidors in form of real cabinets or quite small, traveling humidors meant for 1-3 cigars. This box is not just beautiful article made of wood it locks compactly and the environment doesn't influence cigars that are placed inside the humidor. But this is also not the most important secret; the most important part of any humidor is humidifier. This device consists of case with slits filled with natural grain and maintains necessary humidity inside the humidor. Also humidors are often equipped with hydrometer and thermometer in order to be able to control at any time humidity and temperature.
Selection of humidor is determined, first of all by its owner necessities and also his financial opportunities. If you store not more than 100 cigars, than a usual box-humidor will suit you, if your stocks come to thousands, you will have to order humidor-cabinet. Humidor is not a cheap thing, moreover if it is handmade, manufactory humidors cost much cheaper; however their quality, you understand, is some lower. | |
