Cigarettes are one of the most sold products in the world, but tobacco production is the most profitable. First cigarettes were invented by Indians. They began to wrap tobacco in straw, reed and blades. In Europe cigarettes spreading begun after Crimean War. Cigarettes have quickly become popular among smokers because to smoke cigar or pipe there was need for time and suitable atmosphere but they were always lack of it. First cigarettes were not provided with filter and haven't reminded gages anymore.

For American cigarettes manufacturing were used waste products from other tobacco products production. Cigarette paper is made of flax fiber and contains calcium carbonate. This substance has bleaching effect.

First cigarettes with asbestos filter were produced in England. These were cigarettes of famous brand Kent. Then, thanks to competition were developed modern types of filters. Later appeared cigarettes with filter in which Menthol was added.

At he end of a cigarette is placed filter that doesn't let through in smoker's organism moisture, tar, nicotine, suspended particles of fume, and other harmful contaminants. More often they are made of secondary acetyl cellulose. To improve filter's operation its length is increased, diameter of fibers is decreased, and different substances are added to fiber, for example activated carbon. Thanks to its use considerable part of carbonic oxide, hydrogen cyanide and benzol is retained. Modern researches show that almost fully to eliminate harmful effect can green tea added to cigarette filter. To improve cigarette's taste filters are sometimes made with flavors.

Cigarettes of different brands have different taste, different kick. These properties depend on many conditions - sort and proportion of different tobaccos, flavors and sauces, quality of filter, filling density, air permeability of cigarette paper.

For cigarette's production are used so called botanic tobaccos to which are added, in certain proportion, commercial. The price of cigarettes depends on quality of commercial grades. To improve taste of cigarettes on not yet cut tobacco leafs are added sauces or flavors.
