New research done by senior staff scientist Kunal Gandhi from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, has shown that menthol cigarettes due to their cooling effect can cause strong addiction, even stronger than simple cigarettes.

In this research almost 1700 persons who smoked menthol cigarettes have taken part. It was more difficult to them to give up smoking, than to other people which smoked usual cigarettes. People, who smoked menthol cigarettes, had 50 percent of cases of successful refusal of smoking.

"These results show that menthol additive in cigarettes tobacco, is not so secure. Menthol additive masks the nicotine and toxins containing in tobacco. It means that smoking menthol cigarettes causes the strongest addiction, more than smoking the simple cigarettes, it makes them more dangerous," - Jonathan Foulds, the director of the program on struggle against tobacco addiction, said.
